Asia Pacific chip sales up in February: SIA
Sales volume in China, Japan and the rest of APAC totaled US$29.7b.
Semiconductor sales across Asia and the Pacific increased in February from a year ago, led by China which saw sales surge 29% year-on-year to US$14.13b, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).
Latest SIA data showed Japan lagged behind the region after seeing its chip sales drop 8.5% year-on-year to US$3.57b in February. For the rest of APAC, chip sales went up 15.4% to US$12b during the same comparable period.
The region’s strong showing in February followed the broader 16% increase in global semiconductor sales that month, which totaled US$46.17b. It was boosted by a 22% sales surge in the Americas, and was tempered by a 3.4% dip in Europe.
On a monthly basis, semiconductor sales were down across the globe, with China’s sales declining 4.3% in February, while sales in Japan and the rest of APAC dipped 2.5% and 1.3%, respectively.
“Although month-to-month sales were down slightly, global semiconductor sales in February remained well ahead of the total from the same month last year, a continuation of the strong year-to-year growth the market has experienced since the middle of last year,” said John Neuffer, SIA president and CEO.
“Sales in February increased on a year-to-year basis by the largest percentage since May 2022, and market growth is projected to persist during the remainder of the year,” Neuffer added.
