PepsiCo Foods (China) Co., Ltd. Beijing Factory wins at Manufacturing Asia Awards 2025
Its advances in water efficiency and sustainable practices drove industry recognition.
PepsiCo Beijing food factory won China ESG Initiative of the Year - Food in the Manufacturing Asia Awards 2025. The recognition highlights the factory’s achievements in environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and water stewardship.
The company implemented a robust ESG programme that improved water use efficiency, replenished water to external wetlands, and supported local communities with safe water access. The site team deployed over 34 water-saving initiatives under the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle principle, including low-flow high-pressure technologies, rainwater harvesting, and the reuse of fryer condensate for cooling. These efforts enabled the site to achieve impressive reductions in water use during the period from 2015 to 2024, achieving the highest water efficiency amongst PepsiCo’s approximately 20 APAC food sites. Local authorities recognised the site as a Beijing Water Saving Enterprise.
PepsiCo Beijing food factory also returned treated and supplemented water to the nearby Qinyundian Wetland Park, a critical habitat for diverse flora and fauna. The factory’s ESG initiatives also extended to social responsibility, with more than 470 employees engaged in environmental campaigns and community initiatives. Activities included beach cleaning trips involving 1,196 participants who collected 1,211 kilogrammes of waste, as well as improvements to nursing home facilities.
PepsiCo’s ESG strategy extends beyond Beijing factory, with multiple factories across China recognised as Water Saving Enterprises, National Green Factories, and LEED-certified sites. Since 2000, the company has supported the Mother’s Water Cellar project, donating nearly ¥85mm to provide safe water access to 11.3 million people across 13 provinces, regions, and municipalities.
