Singapore overhauls food industry roadmap to push AI and logistics

Authorities have officially raised the technology bar as nine out of ten industry players abandon traditional manual processes.

Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG) and the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) have updated the Food Manufacturing Industry Digital Plan (IDP) to guide over 1,500 food manufacturers in adopting digital and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, according to a joint statement from the agencies.

EnterpriseSG and IMDA reported that as of 2025, more than 90% of food manufacturers in Singapore have adopted at least one sector-specific digital solution, up from 75% in 2023.

The updated IDP categorises digital tools by three business outcomes: digitalising routine processes, optimising manufacturing, and scaling operations.

Solutions include ERP systems, e-commerce software, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Manufacturing Analytics, and Logistics Control Towers, the agencies said.

EnterpriseSG and IMDA cited Toh Thye San Farm deploying an AI-enabled ordering system as an example. They also cited Kwong Cheong Thye (KCT) implementing a MES to track production variables and support staff training for Data Control Specialist roles.

The refreshed plan includes a Cybersecurity and Data Protection Roadmap and advisory services through SME Centre@SMF, the agencies added.

EnterpriseSG and IMDA said a talent development programme will be launched this year to connect IT and computing students with food manufacturers.
