Global semiconductor sales hit highest ever record in September
September sales were a record-breaking $55.3b.
Global semiconductor sales surged by 23.2% in the third quarter of 2024, reaching $166b, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). This significant growth not only marks a substantial increase compared to the third quarter of 2023 but also represents a 10.7% rise from the second quarter of 2024.
In September 2024 alone, global sales amounted to a record-breaking $55.3b, a 4.1% increase from August's $53.1b. These figures are based on a three-month moving average compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) organization.
John Neuffer, President and CEO of SIA, highlighted the industry's robust performance, stating that the semiconductor market continued its upward trajectory with the largest quarter-to-quarter sales increase since 2016. September saw the highest monthly sales total ever recorded, buoyed by a 46.3% year-over-year increase in the Americas.
Regionally, year-over-year sales in September experienced significant boosts in the Americas (46.3%), China (22.9%), Asia Pacific/All Other (18.4%), and Japan (7.7%), while Europe saw a decrease (-8.2%).
Month-over-month sales in September also showed positive growth in Japan (5.3%), Asia Pacific/All Other (4.5%), the Americas (4.1%), Europe (4.0%), and China (3.6%).
