Global semiconductor sales up 18.3% in Q2
Sales in China and the Asia-Pacific region increased, but declined in Japan and Europe.
The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has announced that global semiconductor industry sales reached $149.9b in the second quarter of 2024.
This marks an 18.3% increase from the same period in 2023 and a 6.5% rise from the first quarter of 2024.
In June 2024, sales totalled $50b, a 1.7% increase from the previous month's total of $49.1b.
These monthly sales figures are calculated by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) organisation and represent a three-month moving average.
SIA, which represents 99% of the U.S. semiconductor industry's revenue and nearly two-thirds of chip companies outside the U.S., highlighted the strength of the global semiconductor market in the second quarter of 2024, with quarter-to-quarter sales increasing for the first time since the fourth quarter of 2023.
SIA President and CEO John Neuffer noted that sales in June grew both compared to the previous month and the same month in the previous year, with the Americas leading the way with a 42.8% increase compared to June 2023.
Regionally, sales rose in China (21.6%) and Asia-Pacific/All Other (12.7%) but declined in Japan (-5.0%) and Europe (-11.2%) compared to the previous year. Month-to-month sales in June increased in the Americas (6.3%), Japan (1.8%), and China (0.8%), but decreased in Europe (-1.0%) and Asia-Pacific/All Other (-1.4%).
