China Manufacturing Industry maintains status as largest in the world for the 15th year
Over 570 industrial enterprises ranked among top 2,500 in R&D investment
China’s manufacturing sector has maintained its position as the largest in the world for the 15th consecutive year as of 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said.
In 2024, China's total value-added industrial output reached CNY40.5t (approximately $5.65t), the ministry reported.
The report said the industrial and information technology sectors contributed over 40% to China’s economic growth last year, serving as a stabiliser and anchor.
More than 570 of China’s industrial enterprises are ranked amongst the world’s top 2,500 companies in research and development (R&D) investment, making up nearly one-fourth of the global total.
In 2024, the country established five new national-level manufacturing innovation centres in emerging fields such as new energy storage, micro-nano manufacturing, molecular drugs, humanoid robots, and embodied intelligent robots.
Zhang emphasised that the ministry will continue to promote the close integration of scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation to improve the overall efficiency of the national innovation system.
