Aerospace and marine sectors drive Singapore’s manufacturing growth in July
Factory production went up by 8.2%.
Singapore's manufacturing sector maintained strong momentum in July, with output climbing 7.1% compared to the same month last year, matching June's robust performance, government data showed August 26.
The Economic Development Board reported that factory production jumped 8.2% from June on a seasonally adjusted basis, a sharp turnaround from the previous month's 0.8% decline.
The transport engineering industry led the charge with a 15.8% annual increase, powered by a booming aerospace sector that saw production soar 22.7%. The growth was fuelled by higher manufacturing of aircraft components and ongoing maintenance and repair work for commercial airlines recovering from the pandemic.
Marine and offshore engineering also performed strongly, expanding 11.7% as shipyards increased activity levels across the island nation.
Several other key manufacturing sectors posted gains, including electronics, precision engineering, chemicals, and biomedical production, signaling broad-based strength in Singapore's industrial base.
However, the general manufacturing cluster bucked the trend, recording a decline over the 12-month period.
